Inspirational Posters

The Glass Animals ‘How to be a Human Being’ tour poster interests me because of its style and how that represents the band and their music. The cohesive colour scheme of mainly green and oranges throughout the border, typography and image, along with the tones of these colours creates a 70s feel that compliments the style of the album. The use of the border, along with the group photo, creates depth which draws the eye into the poster.  I like the overall composition with the bright 8-bit style border and text grabbing your attention and leading the eye to the main image that represents the contents of the album.

(Glass Animals 2017) (Moonlight 2016)

The Moonlight film poster has used three different pictures to create one image, representing the plot of the film. Unlike the tour poster the image is the main focal point, whilst the tour poster had dates and venues it needed to advertise. The Moonlight poster uses its space in a different way. A highly stylised design, the neon light typography and colour palette makes it stand out. The title is and placed at the bottom. However the eye is still drawn to it through the neon light style typography and the fact it is placed over the darkest part of the image, making it stand out regardless. The creator has presented the plot of the movie in a simple but interesting way with the mans face in three sections, each in different coloured lighting, representing the man in three different stages in his life.

Glass Animals’ stylisation interests me and although that particular style may not suit my poster, how they implemented their chosen style through the colour and typography is something that I would like to carry into my own project. Whilst Moonlight’s poster makes use of its main image as the primary narrative force, only adding title and text to accompany it, which I can apply to my own project.
